"Ian Curtis Portrait – Joy Division" (2017)
My good friend who shares a mutual love for Joy Division, commissioned me to do this portrait of the late Ian Curtis.
It was a… ahem…, great joy to listen to Joy Divison and New Order while creating it.
Technique: I used 3 layers of gold acrylic for a background, once dry I applied black oil paint. Diluting the oil with odorless turpentine. The oil paint could be added and removed easily with brushes and turpentine or turpentine on a rag or paper towel.
I’m very pleased with the Andy Warhol style finished product, it looks a bit like it was silk-screened.
